Muskoka Called the Most Beautiful Place on Earth on The Tonight Show

When the host of The Tonight Show calls your backyard the most beautiful place on Earth, you share it. Then you share it again. Then you go and sit on the dock for a while, feeling very pleased with yourself.

Quick answer

In August 2026, actor Ella Rubin told Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s The Tonight Show about filming the series Sterling Point in Muskoka, and Fallon called Muskoka “the most beautiful place on earth.” Locals have been saying it for years. If you would like your own piece of it, start with my lake guides for Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph.

Wait, what did Jimmy Fallon say?

Ella Rubin appears in Sterling Point, an Amazon Prime series that was filmed in Muskoka Lakes and parts of Toronto (Balsamo, 2026). In the show, Sterling Point is an island on Lake Muskoka (Balsamo, 2026). When Rubin mentioned Muskoka during her visit to The Tonight Show, Fallon described it as “the most beautiful place on earth” (Balsamo, 2026).

Late-night television, meet cottage country. Muskoka has been expecting you.

Muskoka will take the compliment, thank you

Here is the thing: people who spend time up here have been saying this for years, usually from a Muskoka chair with a coffee in hand and a loon calling somewhere across the bay. It is nice to hear it on network television, though. My own waterfront cottage is one of my favourite places on Earth, so I may be biased, but Fallon has a point.

Five reasons locals agree

  1. The Big Three. The Township of Muskoka Lakes names Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph as its three large lakes (Township of Muskoka Lakes, n.d.). Three lakes, endless shoreline and plenty of great sunsets.
  2. Room to spread out. Lake Muskoka covers about 10,000 hectares (Muskoka Watershed Council, 2018a), nearly twice the size of Lake Rosseau at about 5,500 hectares (Muskoka Watershed Council, 2018b). Plenty of water for everyone’s favourite swimming spot.
  3. Lake hopping by boat. At Port Carling, the locks open navigation between Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau (Ontario Heritage Trust, 2004). Is there a better way to spend a Saturday than going through the locks? I have not found one.
  4. A wharf with a view. At the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst, a boardwalk runs along the lake, with docking for boats and floatplanes (Town of Gravenhurst, n.d.). Grab a coffee and watch the comings and goings.
  5. The seasons do the decorating. Summer is the headline act, but fall in Muskoka, with the hills turning red and gold and the water calm and quiet, might be the encore everyone talks about. Come see for yourself.
